Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about MTG proxies and ordering from Proxy Ninja.

What is a Magic: The Gathering proxy card?

A proxy is a custom-printed stand-in for an official Magic: The Gathering card. Players use proxies to playtest expensive cards, build casual or Commander decks without spending hundreds of dollars on rare originals, or to feature alternate art. Proxies are not authentic Wizards of the Coast cards and have no resale value as collectibles.

Are MTG proxies legal?

Owning, printing, and using proxies for personal, casual, and playtest purposes is legal in the United States. Proxies become a legal issue only if they are sold or used to deceive someone into thinking they are authentic Wizards of the Coast cards. Proxy Ninja prints proxies for casual and playtest use only.

Are proxies allowed in tournaments?

Proxies are not allowed in official sanctioned Magic tournaments (Wizards of the Coast events, Magic Online, etc.). They are commonly accepted in casual play, kitchen-table Magic, Commander/EDH pods, and playtest sessions — but tournament and store policies vary, so always check with the organizer first.

What card stock and quality do you use?

Our proxies are printed on tournament-grade black core cardstock with a professional smooth or linen finish, matching the feel and weight of authentic Magic cards. They shuffle, sleeve, and play like the real thing.

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship within 3–5 business days. Delivery times after shipment vary by destination.

How are your proxies different from cheap printouts?

Unlike home-printed paper proxies, our cards use professional offset printing on true black-core cardstock, with accurate color matching and proper card dimensions. They are indistinguishable in feel and play from authentic cards inside a sleeve.
